For problem solvers of tomorrow we need to create an environment full of problem solving encounters of the thinking kind. Marcy looks at good problems, many of which have more than one right answer or more than one way to obtain the answer. Students benefit from planned problem solving where they experience problems which can be solved by various problem strategies such as trial and error, drawing diagrams, eliminating, looking for patterns, organizing information, and working backwards.
