With the belief that all students should be doing meaningful mathematics using appropriate tools, Marcy looks at how a simple set of number tiles (0-9) in the hands of each and every student can transform students from passive learners to eager, involved participants. Starting activities with tiles engage all in a variety of thinking experiences at the beginning of a class. Tiles are a perfect tool to involve the students and provide easy constant assessment for the teacher during Mental math activities. Ideas for challenge problems of the day (Stumpers) involving tiles are shared as well as practical” hands on” activities for independent task time. Many practical ideas are presented which can immediately be put to use in the “Live Math Classroom”. This virtual workshop is 2 hours. Includes a PDF handout.
