This exciting NEW K-5 class by Kim Sutton will focus on the all important goal of math fact fluency - an issue that many students coming back from the pandemic are struggling with.  Kim has long stood by the need for students to have math fact fluency as a foundational skill for developing into strong problem solvers.  Basic facts are the critical tools for meaningful mathematics and Kim will share her strategies with you to teach your students to achieve math fact fluency through song, dance, literature, games and other practice tools!

If you have attended other fact fluency classes by Kim, you will be amazed at the new and powerful ideas that are included in this class.  Kim is putting new emphasis on reaching students who are struggling with getting caught back up and you will love her fresh approach to teaching math fact fluency.

In this class, participants will experience powerful models for all four operations.  Through these models, teachers can focus on teaching with more depth for higher levels of thinking.  In other words, how teaching for understanding gives students the ability to perform more complex computation.

Kim will share how she designs her intensive practice schedules using computational strategies for fluency with math facts.  Participants will leave with constructed tools to use in the classroom along with a complete manual for ideas to maximize the experience of practice with math facts.  Kim’s class’s are always uplifting and fun. The hours will fly by and you will be energized to tackle the challenge of teaching math fact fluency. Come join us for this special day!

Participants will learn:

  • How to teach for understanding the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

  • What computational strategies are the most important for what grade levels!

  • Simple student constructed tools that can be used for all strategies.

  • How to use three generic games with hundreds of possibilities!

  • Music that will have us dancing in the classroom!

  • How to be effective with choral chanting! What does that look like in today’s classroom?

  • “Make It” games and work stations like you have never seen before!
