Blueprint for Understanding Today's Math Content

Add Excitement and Fun Into Your Math Program

This new three-day workshop presented by Kim Sutton will feature strategies for effective teaching of mathematics for elementary classrooms using the content of the Common Core and Texas State Math Standards. Participants (K-6) will experience Kim Sutton’s motivating and fast-paced presentation which includes dancing, singing, constructing materials and thinking mathematically.
Each day will begin with a wealth of ideas for focus activities to reinforce and review the foundational skills of mathematics. Kim will share new ideas that include songs, quick “hands-on” activities and meaningful problem-solving questions. The workshop will also include proven ideas for the necessary five to nine minutes daily of drill and practice for math fact fluency. Kim will model a diverse plan for “Drills to Thrill” that includes new ideas using games, songs, choral chanting and differentiated practice. Teachers will be amazed at the simplicity of the ideas and the ease of implementation for your classroom.
This workshop will include how to develop depth in the teaching of the important ideas of number sense and proportional reasoning. Kim will set the tone by modeling powerful manipulative-based lessons to teach the intensive content of the Common Core and Texas State Math Standards. Children’s literature will be used to reinforce these concepts and class materials include Kim’s extensive bibliography for use in your classroom. The ready-to-use ideas include questioning techniques to use with students to maximize higher level thinking! Kim will include new games to be used with dice and dominoes to follow the whole class teaching lessons in an RTI (Response to Intervention) model.
Kim’s unique brand of motivational strategies are infectious and will put you on the correct path to success with new ways to generate enthusiasm in your math classroom. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from one of the country’s top educators!

A Note From Kim:

Dear Teacher:

I am so excited about this new three-day class for summer 2014!  I have included so many new ideas for creating powerful mathematics for elementary students!  You will have lots of strategies in place for the new school year after this class.  This class will fire up your engine for teaching mathematics to elementary learners.

I am planning these features to the class:

•  New children’s literature connections with titles that span the math content.

•  New strategies for achieving fact fluency.

•  Games to motivate all students.

•  New playlist of math music never before used in my workshops.

•  New playlist of songs to use for classroom management.

Each day will follow a structure that I have used with success in my classroom.  I will model how I plan and implement my math minutes to cover all the content in the Texas State Standards and the Common Core Standards.  You will have a huge manual and tool kit of ideas that require simple preparation and implementation.

Come and spend three days with me as we explore all that mathematics has to offer children and how motivation can change your classroom!

Mathematically yours, Kim
